A 24-hour urine collection is a simple diagnostic procedure that measures the components of urine. The test is noninvasive (the skin is not pierced), and is used to assess kidney (renal) function.
Follow these steps
- Upon awakening on the first day of your urine collection, discard the first urine of the morning. All day and night after that, save your urine in a container.
- Open awakening the second day of your urine collection, save the first urine only.
- Seal the container and bring it back to the lab you obtained it from.
- Refrigerate your urine specimen, or keep specimen on ice during collection.
